Why would I need a lactation consultant?

Families seek out my breastfeeding assistance for two different types of help.

The first is that they are having an urgent, specific problem (i.e.: difficulty latching, nipple/breast pain or poor weight gain) – these babies are usually younger (days to months old). The aim of these consultations is to identify the source of the difficulty, create a care plan and follow-up until the issue is resolved.

The second type is a family who is anticipating a breastfeeding-related challenge, whether prenatally or due a life-change such as serious illness or return to work.

How much do you charge?

Please see our price list for breastfeeding services, including classes and home visit fees. Travel time from Mississauga may be charged. I accept cash, cheques and Paypal.

Are your services covered by OHIP?

Unfortunately, not at this time. Some insurance plans may cover all or part of the cost of private Lactation Consultant Services by an IBCLC. I also offer a sliding fee scale where paying for care is a hardship – please email or call for details.

Do you rent breast pumps?

No – the area I service has a large number of pump rental options. If you need a breast pump, I maintain a list of the places you can rent a pump and I am happy to help you learn how to use your pump effectively for your needs.

Do you sell other breastfeeding devices (nipple shields, tubing, etc…)?

Generally, where these types of devices are required as part of your care plan, I provide them as part of my fee. Where they are not included, I will provide a list of local retailers.

Do you do appointments on the weekend?

Yes. Appointments are available on the weekends and in the evening.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments made in advance should be rescheduled or cancelled within 1 business day or a $25 fee will apply. A fee of 50% of the scheduled service will be assessed for appointments cancelled within 12 hours.
